Ethiopia: PPESA to Privatize Bahir Dar and Kombolcha Textiles

Privatization and Public Enterprises Supervising Agency (PPESA) decided to transfer Bahir Dar and Kombolcha textile factories by negotiating with a third party.

Commenting on the matter Wondafrash Assefa, Director of Corporate Communication Directorate at the Agency, said; “Though the two factories were placed for bid repeatedly, no one was able to take over the factories. So the government has come to a decision to transfer them in an unusual scheme by offering potential buyers via negotiation.”

According to The Reporter, the two textile factories have been out for sell earlier but they have failed to attract bidders.

In another related new, PPESA put up three other public enterprises to bid for interested private investors.

These companies are Agricultural Mechanization Service Enterprise, Billito Siraro Agricultural Development (Hawassa Agriculture farms) and Ethiopia Crown Cork & Can Manufacturing Industry Share Company. Among the three companies, BIllito was put for bid back in June along with Bahir Dar and Kombolcha.

The new public bid is going to be open for the public for a month, starting from September 22 to November 22.
