Ethiopia Concluded a Cooperation Agreement With Seychelles

After holding talks on the possibility of strengthening cooperation in various fields, Premiers of Seychelles and Ethiopia, President James Michel and Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn respectively, concluded an agreement for the creation of a joint commission between their two countries.

Among other topics, the two premiers discussed issues of trade, tourism and regional security.
Commenting on this Michel noted, "I believe that the time has come for us to strengthen our relations both bilaterally and at the level of the African Union. There is so much we can do together”.

He further highlighted on the return of Ethiopian Airlines, which he said will enhance boosting trade and tourism cooperation between the two countries.

Ethiopian used to fly three times a week before it decided to quite flying to the Indian Ocean archipelago. Nonetheless, it is now expected to resume its flight on Wednesday, October, 1, 2014.

Fish being one of Seychelles economic pillars, it was raised and discussed during the talks. Michel commented, "Seychelles' fisheries products can be exported to Ethiopia and at the same time Seychelles can import vegetables and other products from Ethiopia. This would be a win-win situation....”.

On his part, Hailemariam welcomed investors from Seychelles to invest in Ethiopia for mutual benefits.

Back in July 2012 the two countries had signed a Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement. During the same year the first Ambassador to Ethiopia of Seychelles, Joseph Nourrice, was accredited.
