Ethiopia: Foreign Investors and Farmers Participation in Rubber Tree Development Increasing

Foreign investors’ as well as farmers’ participation in rubber tree development is growing, the National Rubber Tree Development Project, noted.

According to the Project’s General Manager, Dawit Mesfin, currently there are around 50 partner investors and farmers involved in rubber tree development. In addition to this currently 17 farmers have requested for more than 60,000 rubber tree seedlings for the rainy season.

Around 4,500 hectares of land in Tulu Qobo Woreda of Oromia State by next week will be available for rubber tree development, Dawit noted. He added data gathering is being carried out by foreign investors who are interested in rubber tree development.

The General Manager also disclosed, the project has also been working in cooperation with the Industry Projects Services to establish a modern factory that will produce inputs for rubber and other products. He furthered currently study is being carried out and the factorywill be built in 2015.
