Ethiopia: EPEI‘s Wire and Cable Plant Started Pilot Production

Ethiopian Power Engineering Industry (EPEI) announced its wire and cable production plant, which was established in 2012, has commenced pilot production.

Back in 2012 when established with 80 Million Birr, the plant was intended to produces copper wires for transformers, electronic products and motors of generation.

The Industry’s General Manager, Major Asefa Yohannes, said during the trial period the plant will have a capacity of producing 500 Tons of copper wires in a year.

Nonetheless, upon operating with full capacity the factory is expected to produce 2,500 Tons of copper per annum. This is said to substitute the country’s demand for which it has been importing products.

According to Asefa, the factory will help to interconnect plants that produce transformer, cable and motor.

Commenting on the types of the factory’s products, Captain Waltanigus Tesfaw, Head of the Plant, said in accordance to local demand wires with a diameter between 0.7 and 2.5 are going to be produced by the EPEI.

The Industry was established by the Metals and Engineering Corporation for leading industrialization of the nation.
