Five contractors were awarded seven contracts of 1.06 Billion Birr worth for the construction of 20 Kilometers asphalt road by the Addis Ababa City Roads Authority (AACRA). All the projects are said to be financed by the Addis Ababa City Administration.
The contract was concluded on Thursday, June 26, 2014 between the head of the Authority, Fekade Haile, and representative of the companies.
The companies that concluded contracts with AACRA are Yemane Girmay General Contractor, CRBC Addis Engineering Plc, Macro General Contractor, Melcon Construction Plc and Aser Construction Plc.
According to Fekade these contractors made the lowest offers and they will get to work in two weeks time. He added they will complete the projects in eight to nine months time.
Fekade further noted, “We screened all the contractors that applied for these projects, and banned those that performed less than 80pc in ongoing projects”.
Yemane and CRBC each won two roads. Yemane for its part will handle a 30 Meter wide and 4.1 Kilometers road that stretches from Ayat Square to Ayat Goro Junction. The contract for this project 267 Million Birr and RDDC Consulting firm is going to consult AACRA.
Another contract Yemane won is a 50 Meter wide and 1.9 Kilometers long road from CMC to Karalo junction. Best Consulting Firm is said to supervise the project. With regard to payment Yemane will get 160.9 million Br and 106.2 million Br, respectively, for the two roads.
CRBC on the other hand will be paid 320 Million Birr for the two road projects it is going to carry out. The first project is a 30 Meter wide 2.44 Kilometer long road which stretches from Akaki main road to Tulu Dimtu Condominium and the company will earn 90.8 Million Birr. This project is going to be supervised by Classic Consulting Firm.
The second project awarded for CRBC is worth 229.2 Million Birr and it is inside Bole Arabssa Condominium with 30 to 50 Meters width along with 4.2 Kilometrs length. RDDC is assigned to be the consultant to this project.
A contract worth 260.7 Million Birr was awarded to Macro for the construction of a 50 Meters wide and 3.57 Kilometers road extending from Bole Arabssa Junction to Boke Arabssa Condominuim. Once again the consultant is RDDC.
Two 25 Meters wide roads were also awarded to Melcon and Aser with the same consultant; His Friends Consulting Firm. The project awarded for Melcon is 1.9 Kilometers long for 104.3 Million Birr and will be in Yeka Abado Condominium.
On the other hand the Aser will be working on a 1.94 Kilometer road that stretches from Sara Ampoule to Yeka Abado Condominium for 110.8 Million Birr.
