Ethiopia to Have a Medical Zone

Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced a medical zone is going to be established by Ethiopian North American Health Professionals Association (ENAHPA).

According to Feisel Aliyi, Directorate-General of Diaspora Engagement Affairs with the Ministry, the zone is aimed to help Addis Ababa become a hub for medical tourism.

Feisel added a deal has been signed between ENAHPA and Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), to enhance the medical zone become East Africa’s center of excellence in cancer treatment as well enable people from IGAD member states benefit from it.

The Director General further noted cancer patients from East African countries have been traveling to other places incurring them a huge cost. He continued the new to be built facility will stop this travel and save hard currency.

The center is expected to attract many African countries’ attention for it will be using advanced medical technology and highly qualified professionals.ENAHPA is said to have over 300 Ethiopian health professionals that live in North America and Europe as its members.
