Ethiopia Accepted Request to Host African Aviation Training HQ

International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has made a request to Ethiopia to host the African Civil Aviation Training Organization's Headquarter, according to The Ethiopian Herald.

The Secretary General for ICAO, Raymond Benjamin made the formal request during a discussion with Workneh Gebeyehu, Minister of Transport. Latter after the discussion, State Minister Getachew Mengiste told journalists that the request was warmly accepted.

Commenting on the discussion the two had, Workneh said Raymond has appreciated the progress that is being witnessed in Ethiopia’s civil aviation sector and that Ethiopia should share its experience to its neighboring countries.

Workneh also added, a request for assistance has been made by Ethiopia to ICAO for capacity building and offering training and technical assistance. The request made was in particular to the Bole International Airport’s inspection area and selecting sites and preparing a master plan for expansion.

Raymond has also visited Ethiopian Airports Enterprise, Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority (ECAA) and Ethiopian Airlines (ET). During these visits he discussed with Tewolde Gebre Medhin, CEO of ET, and Colonel Wossen Yeleh Hunegnaw, Director General of ECAA.

Commenting on the discussion he had, Raymond said the discussions were focused on future development and support ICAO could provide to the aviation sector and in particular to ways of creating more training pportunities. He also showed his reassurance for support to Ethiopia in sustaining progress of the sector.
