Tendaho Sugar Factory to Commence Production in January 2014

sugar-corpTendaho Sugar Factory is set to commence production January 2014, Walta Information Center reported citing the Ethiopian Sugar Corporation.

About 85 percent of construction of the first phase of the factory has been completed, Corporation’s Communication Director, Zemedkun Tekle, told Walta today.

The remaining 15 percent of construction of the factory will be finalized in soon and it will begin production in January, Zemedkun said.

11,000 hectares of land has already been covered with sugarcane plantation out of the 50,000 hectares of land slotted for the plantation.

The factory, located in Afar Regional State, will have the capacity to crush 26,000 tonnes of sugarcane and produce 619,000 tonnes of sugar a year when it goes fully operational.

The factory is also expected to produce 120 MW electric power and 63,000 cubic meters of ethanol, Zemedkun added.
