Ethiopia: Phase Three of the E-government Project under Development

Government e-service portals developed by Africom Technologies PLC will be submitted the Ethiopian Ministry of Communications & Information Technology (MoCIT), according to Fortune.

The Ministry awarded the project for the development of 88 e-service portals to Africom in May 2013 for 1.95 million Ethiopian birr.

 Another IT firm, ESystems Africa, is also involved in development of 65 portals.

These projects are part of the third phase of the e-government project, which seeks to deploy 219 e-services by 2015.

Africom Technologies develops transactional services that can be accessed through www.eservices.gov.et, whereas eSystems Africa develops the www.ethiopia.gov.et, a government information portal, according to Baheru Zeyenu, CEO of Africom Technologies, and Abiyot Bayou, director of the Electronic Government Directorate at the MoCIT.

The e-government project, launched in 2010 under the national Information Communication Technology policy, seeks to provide customer-focused, cost effective and user friendly services for citizens and businesses.
