Tender or bid in Ethiopia: Regulations and Procedures

Tender or bid in Ethiopia is something the majority of businesses would like to participate because the biggest buyer in Ethiopia is the government and the various governmental ministries, authorities, offices, public enterprises, corporations, etc are required to buy through tender. The type of tender they're required to float differs depending on the amount of money involved; one can check this at http://www.mofaed.org/Procurement.asphttp://www.mofaed.org/Procurement.asp. 2merkato posts tenders/bids in Ethiopia from the Ethiopian Herald, The Reporter and Fortune; local and international tenders/bids are updated daily at noon time.

Domestic bidders are required to submit these along with the bid documents:

  • Certificate confirming that they are registered in the suppliers list (issued by the Ministry of Finance & Economic Development) - usually called the 'yellow paper';
  • A Tax Clearance Certificate issued by the tax authority and appropriate renewed business license;
  • Value Added Tax Registration Certificate;

And sometimes foreign bidders are required to submit as appropriate:
