Ethiopian Capital to Host Textile Expo

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia is to host a textile expo from the 8th to the 11th of March. The exhibition will be held at the Addis Ababa Exhibition Center according to the Textile Industry Development Institute.

The expo is expected to include an exhibition, design competition, symposium, and site visit.

The exhibition will be an opportunity to promote Ethiopia’s textile products to the rest of the world said Sileshi Lemma Institute General Director.

More than 130 suppliers of raw materials, producers, fashion designers and other stake holders in the textile industry as well as foreign investors have been invited to participate in the expo according to Sileshi.

Textile products including garments will be seen at the exhibition he said.

Exhibitions like this play a significant role in creating an integrated market chain, and to promote communication between customers and manufacturers according to Sileshi.

It is expected that the Expo will offer a chance for local and international entrepreneurs to network and form market links explained Sileshi.

Ethiopia earned more than 23 million US dollars in 2010 and 62.2 million US dollars in 2011 from the textile and garment industry he noted.

The textile industry in Ethiopia has attracted local and international investors with more than eight middle and high level companies involved as well as many small scale enterprises involved in the sector.
