Meskel Square - Bole Ring Road Opens to Traffic

The 4.3km Meskel Square - Bole Ring Road upgraded in Addis Ababa City opened to traffic, the City Roads Authority said.

Sisay Workneh, Communication Affairs officer with the Authority,  told Ethiopian News Agency on Wednesday the road was upgraded with USD 60 million loan secured from the Export-Import Bank of China. Upgrading of the road included construction of three bridges.

Ethiopia, China to sign USD 3.3 Bln Loan Agreement

Following the decision of the government of China to finance the Ethio-Djibouti railway project, high-ranking officials of Export Import Bank of China are expected to arrive in Addis Ababa in the coming days to finalize an agreement between the finance Ministers of Ethiopia and China.

The signing of the agreement would pave the way for the release of the USD 3.3 billion loan which will be used to finance the 752.7km railway project which connecting Sebeta town of Oromia Regional State with Djibouti’s Negad Port. Add a comment Add a comment


Dry Port Service Enterprise Establishing Ports In Mekelle and Dire Dawa

Ethiopian Dry Port Service Enterprise (DPSE) is setting up additional dry ports, in Mekelle and Dire Dawa, to ease congestion at the Modjo Dry Port.

“The Enterprise picked Mekelle and Dire Dawa because they are industrial areas with growing cargo flow,” Dessalegn Gebre-Hiwot, deputy CEO of Ethiopian Shipping & Logistics Services Enterprise said.

The Dry Port Service Enterprise is already using rented spaces in the two towns: a 3,000sqm plot, rented from the Ethio – Djibouti Railway Enterprise, and a 1,500sqm space rented from the Mekelle Administration. Add a comment Add a comment


EEPCo, Chinese Company Concluded Bln Dollar Transmission Line Contract

The Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation (EEPCo) concluded a USD 1.2 billion contract with State Grid of China Electrical Power Equipment & Technology CO. Ltd. for the installation of transmission lines to connect the power generated from  the 6,000-megawatt Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam on the Blue Nile River with the nation grid.

The Ethiopian government will spend USD 180 million of the project cost, while the balance will be covered by a loan obtained from a Chinese state owned bank.

Roads Authority Preparing to Construct Roads Linking the Addis Ababa-Adama Expressway

Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) is finalizing Preparations to construct two roads linking the Addis Ababa-Adama Expressway with Addis Ababa City into two directions.

The 28.1-km roads will be constructed at a cost of more than 4.2 billion Ethiopian birr allocated by the government of Ethiopia and loan obtained from Chinese Exim bank, according to ERA's Communication Directorate, Samson Wondimu.
