It was announced on Monday that the current network problems experienced by Ethiopian Telecom will ease as soon as the new Chinese installed network infrastructure is fully integrated. The new network is under installation by the Chinese company ZTE at a cost of 1.5 billion USD.
Existing network connection problems are in part due to the integration process of the new Chinese network with the network that is already in place according to Dr. Debretsion Gebremichael, Information and Communication Technology Minister.
Network problems observed at the present will cease to be a problem as soon the Chinese infrastructure becomes fully operational assured Jean Michel Latute, French CEO of Ethio Telecom. Ethio Telecom is directly following the progress of the Chinese network he explained, at the signing agreement between Ethio Telecom and the Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation (EEPCO).
The arrangement with EEPCO will allow Ethio telecom use of 1424km of fiber optics transmission lines. The new fiber optics transmission lines are designed to be more resistant to wear and tear as compared to the regular fiber optic lines in use by Ethio Telecom currently according to reports by EEPCO.
Ethio Telecom is expected to adapt fiber ground transmission for its network system across the country.
