Brazilian Firm Signs Agreement with Ethiopian Railway

Andrade Gutierrez S.A, a Brazilian firm signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Ethiopia’s Railway Corporation. The Brazilian Company is expected to work on the 496km Addis Ababa-Ijaji-Jimma-Bedelle Railway Project to be financed by funds from Brazilian financial institutions according to Ambassador Taye Atskeselassie, Director General for the Americas with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.  

The MoU was signed on the two day visit by a delegation led by Antonio de Aguiar Patriota, Brazilian Foreign Minister last week. Brazilian companies can potentially involve in other infrastructure projects such as road construction and energy according to the Foreign Minister.

Ethiopia has much in common with Brazil which is one of the fastest growing countries in the world and has an innately pro-poor strategy according to Taye.

Ethiopia and Brazil signed five protocol cooperation agreements for cooperation in the education, farming, national security, trade, the environment, research and the easing of restrictions on diplomatic visas during the visit of the Brazilian government.

The agreement signed on the railway and the other five protocols will take the relationship between the two countries to another level according to Marceo A. Borges, Deputy Head of Mission with the Brazilian Embassy.

Andrade Gutierrez S.A, Founded in 1948 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil is a large, private, Latin American, firm working in Engineering and Construction, Telecommunications, Energy and Public Grants.
