Ethiopia to Build Four More Airports

The Ethiopian Airports Enterprise is to build four new airports as part of general development plans in Ethiopia. The enterprise plans to renovate, and upgrade current airports as well as increasing the number of airports from 17 to 21 according to the latest journal published by the EAE.

The enterprise has been allocated 1.29 billion birr for the current financial year to undertake the projects aimed to enhance its facilities said the journal.

The EAE administers 15 airports and 2 airstrips including 4 international standard airports such as Bole International Airport in Addis Ababa, Bahir Dar Airport and Dire Dawa Airport.

It is to be remembered that the enterprise is constructing its 18th airport in Kombolcha at an investment of 60 million birr. The 19th airport, to be named the General Hayaloum Araya Airport to be built in Tigray Regional State according to the Public Relations Department of the EAE. 

The other two airports to be constructed could be built in Somali Regional State at sites at are under study it was noted.
