Feasibility Studies Being Conducted For Two New Roads in Ethiopia

A group comprising of the Addis Ababa City Roads Authority, Ethiopian Roads Authority, and Core Consulting Engineers plc are conducting feasibility studies to construct two new roads and repairing another road in Ethiopia.

The roads are planned to connect the Addis Ababa-Adama expressway to the Hayat-Yerer Ber road and connect Akaki to Lebu and Tulu Dimtu in various directions. Re-pair work is being done on the current road between Tulu Dimtu and Akaki.

It is expected that the additional roads will serve to relieve the congestion that could be created by high traffic flow on the new six lane expressway.

The city administration of Addis Ababa communicated the potential for congestion to the Ministry of Transport which redirected the issue to the Ethiopian Roads Authority and requesting a proposal.

The feasibility study for the project was assigned to Core Consulting Engineers by the ERA and the AACRA.

The roads are expected to be part of the Second Ring Road to be built in Addis Ababa according to an official with the AACRA.The design for the Second Ring Road is in the process of being finalized said the official.

It is to be remembered that the 80 km super high way between Addis Ababa and Adama begins from the ring road just outside of Addis Ababa. The road will parallel the current road linking Adama with the capital and will have exits at every town between Addis Ababa and Adama.

The two way road will be fenced on either side to prevent pedestrians and animals entering the road.
