Ethiopia: Chinese CGCOC Finalizing Relocation of the City's Main Water Pipeline

The Chinese construction company CGCOC, contracted for relocating the 8km main water pipeline of the city of Addis Ababa for the construction of the Light Rail Transit (LRT), is finalizing its work, Capital reported.

The company has completed the majority of the relocation work excluding the part which passes through the compound of the Bulgarian Embassy located on Haile Gebreselassie Road, Capital reported citing Etsegenet Tesfaye, Public Relations Head of Addis Ababa Water and Sewerage Authority.

Ethiopia: 43% of the Addis Ababa Light Railway project Completed

The Ethiopian Railway Corporation said, 43 per cent of the construction of the Addis Ababa Light Railway project has been completed.

Currently Addis Ababa's road coverage stands at 15 per cent, according to  figures from the City Administration. The Light Railway is expected to come to be fully completed by the end of 2014. Add a comment Add a comment


Ethiopia: First Phase of Road Linking Ethiopia and Port of Lugdi in Sudan Completed

The first phase of the road linking Ethiopia with Sudan, the Shire-Adigoshu-Humera-Lugdi asphalt concrete road project is is completed, according to the Ethiopian Roads Authority. The project was launched with 1.6 billion Ethiopian birr budget.

Samson Wondimu, Communication Director with the Authority,  told Ethiopian News Agency that the 324km Shire-Adigoshu road project is part of the third road development sector program. The road links Ethiopia with the Port of Lugdi, in Sudan. Construction of the first phase of the project was allocated with over six million birr. Add a comment Add a comment


Ethiopia Planning to Build Hydro-power Plant in the Baro-Akobo River Basin

The Ethiopian government is planning to build a 1060 MW hydro-power plant in the Baro-Akobo River Basin. The Ministry of Water and Energy has awarded a US$1.5 million contract for the pre-feasibility and feasibility study of the Tams Hydro-power Project to the state-owned Water Works Design and Supervision Enterprise (WWDSE) and the Italian, Electro Consult (ELC).

The proposed dam site is located between the town of Bonga and the town of Gambella,  which are 449km Southwest and 766km West of Addis Ababa respectively.
