Construction Methodology

SIMEON AND FELEKE CONSTRUCTION P/C. is a company which has planned to fulfill the need of the client/employer/ is related works to offer on the BID with the company’s available skilled man power semi-skilled laborers and available vehicles and machineries.

The company has organized strong crew to undertake the construction activities with its full capacity and for medcrews of high capacity that has separate tasks.

The contractor plans to clear the ground on or below which the work are to be erected by removing all unnecessary vegetation cover and all specifically obstructions, The material will bed is posed from the site to approved place by the Engineer.

Considering relative to materials and compaction for instance are more directly related to pavement design and performance than slope stability.

Foundation conditions with their associated potential problems of settlements and stability the design of embankments over soft and compressible soils requires the determination of both them agnitude of settlements which will occur under the future embankments and the anticipated rate of settlement. It also requires verification of the allowable height of embankment, or sides lopes,or construction rate to prevent shear failure and ensure embankment stability.

Considerations regarding settlements & stability are covered separately here under for convenience, although it should be realized; it is essential that provision is made to dispersesur face water from the formation at all stages of constructions. The material will be disposed from the site to approvedplace by the engineer.

surface water from the formation at all stages of construction.Sub soil drain sat the toe of the sides lopes may be necessary.

The subsequent performance, stability and maintenance of cuttings will depend on the measures introduced to alleviate the problems created by rainfall and ground water. It is much more costeffective to install all the necessary elements at construction rather than to rely on remedialtreatment later. Structural foundations have planned explorations depending on the size of thestructure.

Survey ingand setting out

First setting out the works in relation to original points, lines and levels of references specified inthe contract or notified by the engineer an correctly positioning of all parts of the works, andshallrectify any error inthe positions, levels, dimensionsoralignment ofthe works.

Prior to the start of any earth work or excavation complete data of the alignment of pipe routeline and topographic survey for structures foundation work. After the site clearance, the detailedsetting out, including the marking of all points for works to be constructed, will be carried outbythe contractors well qualified and experienced surveyors jointly with bureau surveyor before thebeginningofany otheractivities. Surveyinstrumentswill beusedfor the executionof work.

The alignment of a new pipe line profile for the trench depth and pipe lying along the alignmentof the pipe route line coordinates and elevations including topographic survey for structuresfoundationwork complete data representativecollected forthe proposedwork.
Materials

Construction material supply are mainly cement, stone, sand, pipe, reinforced bar, sand, red ash, naturally occurring granular materials and aggregates.

- Rockis alsoused forconcrete, masonryand other miscellaneous uses

- Sand and water also constitute construction materials:sand may be mechanically mixed with other unbound naturally occurring orcrashed gravel.

Materials to improve their characteristics,as fine aggregate for concrete mixes or incement mortar mix;

However, thematerials objectof this chapter is simply classified as:

  •     Fresh cement from factory and reinforcedbars
  •     Naturally occurring materials
  •     Naturally occurring selected fill soil and bedding materials
  •     Crushed stone aggregates(quarrymaterials)
  •     Water Reinfor cementbar andconcrete work

Mixing , placing, finishing, and curing of concrete conform to the Ethiopian codes and standardsand confirmed mixes for each class of concrete are prepared and tested for slump, strength & work ability with there sultprior to construction.Fabrication and placing of concretere inforcement conformto the codes and standards:

  •     ESCP2: Part1 – StructuralUse ofconcrete.
  •     BS4466 – Bending dimensionsand barscheduling forreinforcement ofconcrete.
  •     BS5337– The structuraluseof concretecontaining aqueous liquids

The material reinforcement hot – rolled or cold – rolled, deformed steel bars conform to ESCP2 and reinfor cement bars are protected from contamination by storing on racks above ground that is free from loose rust, mud, oil, orother bond–reducingcoatings.

Reinforcementbarsareplacedaccuratelykeptspacerswithsufficientstrengthtocarrythereinforcement by preventing displacement during concreting.Aside from spacers are providedforboth inner and outerlayersof reinforcement in walls of watertightstructures.

Sampling and testing of aggregate prior to the development of anaggregate source is in accordance with recommended practices.

Fresh cement obtained from factory conforms to ESC.D5.201 (Type 0) ordinary hardening andcement is sulphate – resistant Portland cement complying with BS 4027 for the water treatment plantclarifiers and filters.

Coarse and fine aggregate shall consist of crushed stone, gravel, or natural sand is conformancewith ESC.D3.201.

Themaximum sizeof aggregate not exceeds the limits:

    40mmfor baseslabs, walls,andcolumns greaterthan 300mmthick
    20mmforother concretework

All water tight structures are constructed on a lean concrete layer of 50 mm thick with moist curing by maintaining the surface ofconcrete continuously moist and wet cover of sand adequately:

Supply materials and the necessary equipment to the site.
Request to perform concrete mix jointly & submit checklist for casting concrete after fixing of form work & placing steel reinforcement completed.

(Checking the layout of bar and neatness, levels, etc. as per the specification)

Casting concrete after getting approval from engineers in the presence of engineer representative.

    MasonryWork

The stone used for masonry work is hard stone in large pieces free of cracks is provided. Themortar used for binding is in proportion specified in the design. Mixing of the mortar made withwater applied on the mortar to maintain consistency. But for the construction ofthe masonrymaterialssuch as looseaggregate which preventproperbonding removed.

A full mortar bed is used for the first course of the unit masonry, except mortar for cores to begrouted. On completion of the work, masonry structures are cleaned by scrubbing and brushingwith fiber brushes.

  •     Supply materials & necessary equipment to the site
  •     Submit checklist for constructing masonry wall
  •     Keeping record that includes volume of work, location, type of work for preparation of as built drawing
