REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL- (RFP -ETH- 2015 – 9118606) 

UNICEF Ethiopia Office is seeking Request for Proposals (RFP) from Local Firm/Company/Organisation – To develop Manual for preschool level/ ECCE teachers and facilitators to improve their knowledge and skills in storytelling Ethiopia- (period of 3 moths) 

Background:

Early Childhood and lower primary are the foundational years for the children to learn and grow. Weak foundation in literacy, numeracy and other social & cultural issues have negative implications for the individuals in their future life of education and beyond. Interactive and joyful teaching learning in the classroom is one of the most effective ways to help children to achieve the expected learning outcomes more specifically school readiness and early grades. Storytelling is one of the essential methods to make the teaching learning interesting and joyful more specifically for the younger children at preprimary level. 

Objective: The purpose of the consultancy is to develop a story telling guideline and manual that can be used to improve the story telling sills of preschool/ ECE teachers and facilitators. The manual will aim to improve knowledge and skills of teachers / ECCE facilitators on the mental, social, and educational benefits of storytelling as well as the different components of storytelling which includes feedback organizing related learning activities.

3. Experience /qualification of the firm and Team Composition:

The consultancy firm needs to possess the following experience and expertise:

Technical expertise in the areas of education particularly on development of learning-teaching materials for early education; Knowledge and experience on how young/preschool  children learn; Good communication and presentation skills/ability to express concisely and clearly ideas and concepts in written and oral form;  Ability to meet and keep strict deadline; Excellent written and spoken in Amharic and English; Has a qualified and experienced professionals in the team; Has a full team of graphic artists, illustrators and software experts who can visualize what is required and prepare the manual accordingly 

The team is expected to have the following composition:

Team leader: Minimum qualifications for the team leader shall include:

• Advanced university degree in education, child development, social science or related fields
• Demonstrated ability to manage a multidisciplinary team, to achieve specific and measurable results – a proven track record in management of projects,
• Expected competencies: Technical expertise in the areas of education particularly for development of learning-teaching materials for early/preschool education; Good communication and presentation skills/ability to express concisely and clearly ideas and concepts in written and oral form; Ability to meet and keep strict deadline; Excellent written and spoken English; Good understanding of Amharic
