Introduction

HelpAge International implementing a “project called Everyone Deserves the Chance for a Secure Future - Promoting Inclusive and Forward-looking Agriculture in Oromia, Ethiopia” since January 2022 with two implementing partners: SOS Sahel and Rift Valley Children and Disability Organization (RCWDO). The project is being implemented in two zones of the Oromia region: Borena (in Dire, Arero, Dhas, Yabelo, and Dubluq woredas) and East Bale (in Rayitu and Dawe Kachen woredas). The Major activities of the project are implementing the SAPARM (Satellite Assisted Pastoral Resource Management) and strengthening the capacity of Beekeepers and Aloe vera Association for better production, marketing, and value chain integration. The SAPARM application project had a significant  impact on the decision-making of pastoralists allowing for them to make informed decisions regarding the movement of their herds and minimizing the impacts of drought. On the other hand, Supporting and strengthening the Beekeepers and Aloe Vera Association plays a vital role in the livelihoods of members and the surrounding community. To sustain the results achieved and scale up and replicate in other areas of the country, it is vital to showcase what has been done through quality documentary videos.

Objective of the documentary Video

The objective of the documentary video is to showcase the impact brought by the three projects (SAPARM, Aloe vera, and Beekeeping) and highlight the importance of such initiatives for the communities affected by climate shocks and who have high levels of mobility. Moreover, it is also intended to highlight the potential of honey (in East Bale) and Aloe Vera soap production (in Borena) emphasizing the establishment of local livelihood initiatives to improve producer's market access from local to regional.

Therefore, the main objective of the documentary video focus is as follows:

  • Immersive and genuine portrayal of the project's impact, challenges, and successes.
  • Promote the untapped resources in the area for further intervention and attention.
  • Raise awareness of the importance of such initiatives for drought-affected communities.
