The global hotel chain, Marriott International, said it is planning to expand its business in Ethiopia. To this end, the company is exploring new ways to improve the hospitality industry in Ethiopia, it announced.

Arne Sorenson, Marriott’s President and CEO, has met and discussed its plans of expansion with Ethiopia’s President Sahle-Work Zewde today.

“Tourism, particularly the hospitality industry is growing substantially in Ethiopia. As there is a high global competition for the market, Ethiopia needs to do more in the sector. Marriott is ready to work with the relevant bodies of Ethiopia,’’ Mr. Sorenson remarked.

The CEO has also expressed that Marriot plans to hold a conference on hospitality in Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa in the coming September. The event, he pointed out, will be attended by participants from all over Africa and the rest of the globe, creating an opportunity to promote Ethiopia’s and Africa’s heritages at large.

President Sahle-Work, on the occasion, lauded Marriott’s initiative and further affirmed the government’s support to their efforts.
