Ethiopia’s Public-Private Partnerships Directorate General (PPP-DG) has issued a Request for Pre-Qualification (RfQ) for up to 500 MW of solar power generating capacity. The 500 MW is divided into four projects: Humera, Mekele, Welenchitti and Weranso.

The request comes as a second round step of the Scaling Solar program.

The directorate general has invited interested parties to submit their applications no later than May 29, 2019. It has also been announced that the next stage in the bidding process will see pre-qualified bidders participate in a Request for Proposals (RfP) process. It is also pointed out that international bidders are encouraged to find local private partners in order to take part.

The first round of the Scaling Solar program in Ethiopia, supported by the World Bank Group, had issued a 250-MW solar tender previously, the winner of which is yet to be announced.
