Ethiopia: Deputy Prime Minister Says Government Is Willing to Hear and Incorporate Policy Insights

Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Ato Demeke Mekonnen, said the government was willing to hear any policy insights and include them in the plans and programs of the country by taking into account the objective reality. According to the Deputy Prime Minister, the government is working hard to accelerate the country’s economic change and renaissance by obtaining key macroeconomic inputs.

An economic forum was held yesterday with the theme “Short and Long Term Challenges and Prospects of Ethiopia’s Growth Target and Structural Transformation Ambitions.” Ato Demeke said the forum was a good start to get insights for policy measures. He said the forum was an opportunity to point out challenges to the national economy and to develop structural changes adding though accomplishments were registered, there were low performances and challenges that restrain the sector. Eyob Tekalign, Minister in charge to National Planning Commission, said all concerned bodies should play their part to resolve the challenges the country encounters.

Participants of the forum said it was crucial to upgrade the economic policy, improve the financial system and quality of export as well as enhance foreign trade capacity of exporting companies.
