Ethiopia to Amend Urban Land Law

Ethiopia is going to amend the legal regime its existing urban land law which came into effect back in 2011.

The announcement was made during a meeting called to gather inputs from stakeholders for the draft bill.

Speaking at the meeting, Minister of Urban Development and Construction, Ambachew Mekonnen (Dr), said the proclamation would be amended to ensure fair use of urban land all over the Ethiopia and fill the gap noticed in the application of the law.

Bizualem Admasu, Land Development and Management Bureau Head with the Ministry of Urban Development and Construction, explained the draft bill was focused on problems associated with tender process and investment land.

After the amendment is drafted it will first be tabled to the Council of Ministers and then the federal legislature, House of Peoples’ Representatives (HPR).
