Ethiopia: Ethio-Djibouti Water Project to Be Finalized in 3 Months

The cross boarder potable water project that extends from Ethiopia to Djibouti is scheduled to be finalized in 3 months time.

The project is said to supply safe drinking water for more than 700,000 residents of Djibouti. The project was tested 3 weeks ago and proved successful, the project manager, Demelash Mulu, explained.

It was back in July 2015 that the construction was commenced. The project cost 329 million USD and financed by a loan the government of Djibouti secured from the Export Import Bank of China.

According to Fana Broadcasting Corporation, the project includes construction of water wells, reservoirs, the supply and installation of 102 kilometer water distribution pipelines.

The cross-border project is said to be one of the largest water projects in the Horn of Africa and it is expected to solve drinking water problems in Djibouti. In addition to this, it is expected to tighten the ties between the 2 counteries.
