Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) signed agreements worth more than 17.4 billion Birr with 12 firms from Ethiopia and 7 contractors from China. The agreements are to upgrade and construct different road projects across Ethiopia.

The agreements stipulate the road projects would be completed in within 2 to 4 years. The project is going to be fully funded by the Ethiopian government.

The road projects, according to Ethiopian News Agency, are in Oromia, Amhara, Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples, Tigray, and Gambella states.

As per the agreements the roads are part of the Second Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP II) and they stretch for a total of 1,007 kilometers.

The road projects include construction of gravel roads, new roads, upgrading existing roads to asphalt and concrete.
