Ethiopia: Cornerstone Laid for Wood Processing Factory

Cornerstone for a wood products processing factory, which will be constructed at a cost of 1 billion Birr, was laid in Woldiya City, Amhara State. It is Abay Industrial Development Share Company is the owner of the factory.

The factory, which is built near Woldeya – Hara railway station, is scheduled to be finalized in 3 year time. Once it goes operational, the factory will utilize more than 240,000 cubic meters wood products per year. It will also create more than 2,000 permanently as well as temporary job opportunities.

According to Getachew Tesfaye, Board Chairperson of the company and Bureau Head of Trade, Industry and Marketing Development with the rank of Deputy Chief Administrator of Amhara State, the factory will produce chipboard, timber and home and office furniture.

Abay Industrial Development plans to construct 20 different factories across Amhara State. These factories will be built at an outlay of 16 billion Birr capital.

The fact that eucalyptus trees are found in the area is said to help provide raw material for the factory.
