Ethiopia’s Council of Ministers gave the permission for Circum Minerals Ltd., a British company, to extract potash in Danakil Depression, Afar State. This made the company the only company engaged in the extraction of potash in Ethiopia.

Alana Potash used to extract potash from the Afar State. However, the company halted exploration 5 months ago claiming poor infrastructure and regulatory frameworks in the country as a major reason to abandon the project.

In the coming few weeks Circum is expected to conclude agreements with the Ministry of Mines.

According to Fortune, Circum has been operating in Ethiopia for 10 years. Thus far it has invested 50 million USD for exploration and feasibility study.
