Ethiopia: Modjo – Hawassa Road Reaches 12 Percent Completion Rate

Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) disclosed it has completed 12 percent of Modjo – Hawassa expressway.

The first part of the project is being constructed by China Railway Seventh Group, which contracted with the Authority 2 years ago.

The project is being undertaken under 3 segments; Mekki – Zeway, Zeway – Arsi Negele and Arsinegele – Hawassa. It stretches for almost 145 kilometers.

According to Walta Information Center, the major international financers of the expressway are the World Bank and Exim Bank of China.

Commenting on the development, ERA’s Public Relation and Communication Head, Samson Wondimu, said Modjo – Meki segment of the project would be concluded by 2018.

“So far the construction progress is well underway. We have assessed the implementation of the company on the ground and convinced that it would finalize the project on the set schedule,” he added.
