Ethiopia Earned 1.6 Billion USD from Tourism

In the first 6 months of the current fiscal year, Ethiopia earned 1.6 billion USD from the tourism sector. According to Gezahegn Abate, Public and International Relations Director at the Minister of Culture and Tourism, more than 400,000 foreign tourists visited the country during the 6 months period.

Compared to the 6 months of last fiscal year, there is a decline in the number of tourists that visited Ethiopia. The number has fallen by nearly 40,000 and the revenue by 145 million USD.

Gezahegn explained, the first half performance was a proof that the country could hit the target it set for the entire year, 3 billion USD from 1.2 million foreign visitors.

By the end of the Second Growth and Transformation Period, Ethiopia aims to raise the number of tourists to 2 million and also earn 6 billion USD from the sector.
