Ethiopia’s lower house, House of Peoples’ Representatives (HPR), approved an additional budget of 18.62 billion Birr for the federal government.

Out of the entire newly approved additional budget, 9 billion Birr will be used to improve salaries of civil servants. 5 billion Birr, on the other hand, will be assigned for youth revolving fund and 200 million Birr is set aside for urban safety net program.

The remaining budget, which is a little more than 4 billion Birr, is expected to be used for the establishment of a one stop shop at the Ethiopian Revenues and Customs Authority (ERCA) and furnish a cardiac center in Black Lion Hospital with the necessary medical equipment.

It was 7 months ago, in June, that HPR approved 274.3 billion Birr budget for the current fiscal year.
