Ethiopia: Abattoir to Export Meat to Middle East

Jigjiga Export Slaughter House (JESH), which is a based in Ethiopia and built at a cost of 200 million Birr, will start exporting meat to the Middle East in the coming 2 weeks.

According to the General Manager of the abattoir, Dr. Faisal Abdi, in the aim of meeting Somali State’s demand the facility has been slaughtering more than 500 sheep and goats every day. Now the company aimed at exporting its products to the Middle East, he added.

Faisal explained that there have been agreements regarding the quality of meet with Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Yemen and Oman.

The company was established by 9 Ethiopian Diasporas from the Somali State. According to Faisal, the abattoir was built over 35 hectares of land and it has full facilities; animal fattening rooms and waste disposal system.

Currently JESH has employed 70 personnel. However, upon going fully operational the number is expected to reach 200.
