Ethiopia: Tigray Expects 28 Million Quintals of Crop

Agriculture and Rural Development Bureau of Tigray State, one of the 9 federal division of Ethiopia, forecasted 28 million quintals of crop will be harvested from this season.

According to the Technology Development Officer of the Bureau, Nigus Teklu, the State aims to harvest over 28 million quintal crop and the crops will be cultivated on a little over 1.2 million hectares of farmland.

The target was set after noticing the favorable rainfall distribution and an intensive work was carried out to enhance agricultural productivity, Nigus explained.

In the aim of boosting productivity of crops, more than 46 million quintals of compost has been used, the officer noted. Planting by line has also been undertaken on 410,000 hectare.

445,000 hectares of land has also been sowed by applying chemical fertilizer. In addition to this 78,000 quintals of improved seed was used.
