Kia Motors decided to build training centers for mechanics in 2 East African countries, Ethiopia and Kenya. The centers are said to be built in order to contribute for the countries’ economies by offering education to the youth. They are also expected to contribute to job creation and boost economies of Ethiopia and Kenya.

On Friday, May 27, 2016 a groundbreaking ceremony for the center was held in Ethiopia. Chung Jin-haeng, President of Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors, along with Ethiopia’s First Lady, Roman Tesfaye, Kim In-shik, President of Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and Ethiopia World Vision President Edward Brown participated in the event.

The centers are going to be built by KOICA, a South Korean government organization with vast experience offering grant aid programs to developing countries. In addition to building the centers, the Agency will manage the education program after completion.

According to Korea Times, the training centers will also give other vocational skills, including sewing, beauty and hairdressing, to boost jobseekers' capabilities. This is in addition to automotive engineering.
