Ethiopia Earned 1.7 Billion USD from Tourism

Ethiopia generated more than 1.7 billion USD in the first 6 months of the current fiscal year. The announcement was made by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

According to Public Relations and International Affairs Director at the Ministry, Gezahegn Abate, explained the revenue was collected from 470,000 tourists that visited Ethiopia during the period.

He attributed the achievement to the attention the government gave to the tourism industry and promotion made by Ethiopian embassies and consuls abroad. Infrastructure development and expansion of hotels at tourist destination played its part for the increment in the revenue, Gezahegn furthered.

Commenting on hotels, Gezahegn explained currently there are more than 200 hotels owned by Ethiopian Diaspora.

Accroing to Fana broadcasting Corporate, tourists stay in Ethiopia for an average of 16 days and spend 234 USD per day.

Ethiopia aims to attract 2 million foreign tourists and generate 6 billion USD from them by the end of the Second Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP II).
