Four Construction Firms Suspended in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

The Addis Ababa City Roads Authority (AACRA) suspended four construction firms from upcoming projects in Addis Ababa, Capital reported.

These prominent construction firms involved in several projects over the past years were suspended due to the fact that the contractor’s performance measurement results were below 75%, which is beneath the standard.

Director General of AACRA, Engineer Fekadu Haile, informed Capital that the contractors had been suspended from two new road construction project bids that were planned for the budget year and will not participate on any upcoming projects until they accomplish the projects they are currently handling.

Among those that were suspended are Satcon Construction PLC, Afro Tsion Construction PLC, Homa Construction PLC and Ethio General PLC. As Engineer Fekadu asserted, “the suspended construction firms have current asphalt road projects in the city that have not been delivered on time. We take this measure to be a lesson for other contractors, who may not conduct their work as per the schedule.”

According to ACCRA, poor project management and delivery by local contractors is urging the road authorities to award projects to foreign contractors. It noted that the companies shall be able to participate on future projects provided that they complete their projects.
