Ethiopia Borrows 327 million Dollars from African Development Bank

Ethiopia signed an agreement with the African Development Bank (ADB) for the loan of 327 million dollars to be used for the supply of potable water and other basic infrastructures, Walta Information reported.

Ahmed Shide, the Minister of Finance and Economic Cooperation, stated that the first agreement was signed for the loan of 251 million dollars to be used in providing basic services and infrastructure while the second was concluded for the loan of 76.1 million dollars for the construction of potable water and sanitation services in the towns of Bichena, Adwa, Adama and Gode.

Josephine Nigure (PhD), representative of the ADB, on her part pointed out that the current loan agreement would further strengthen the country’s effort in different sectors though they had been supporting Ethiopia’s effort on infrastructure since 2006. Furthermore, the bank made it clear that it supports the goals of the Second Growth and Transformation Plan in addition to Ethiopia’s effort of expanding potable water and infrastructure services in previously devoid areas.
