USAID Inaugurates Livestock Feed Manufacturing Facility in Ethiopia

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has inaugurated on November 19, 2015, a new livestock feed manufacturing facility in Tigray Regional State of Ethiopia developed in partnership with Ethio-Feed PLC.

The investment will allow suppliers, processors, cooperatives, exporters, financial and other service providers to access higher nutritional content feed at lower prices, the press release the U.S. Embassy sent to Fana Broadcasting Corporate (FBC) on November 19, 2015, reads.

Low cost ingredients from agricultural byproducts found in Tigray like maize cobs, sugar cane tops and cactus pads will be used by the facility. The daily production capacity of the facility is 50 quintals.

Ethio-Feed will benefit 8,000 farmers in three woredas (districts), according to USAID Representative John Edgar said. 

USAID in partnership with Anno Agro-Industry Farm PLC has opened similar facility first in Oromia Region in 2014, he noted.
