Ethiopia to Host First International Agro-Industry Investment Forum

Ethiopia is going to host the First International Agro-Industry Investment Forum in May 2016, Ethiopian News Agency reported.

The Forum is organized by the Ethiopian government and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and it will be held from May 2-4, 2016, it was indicated.

State Minister of Finance and Economic Cooperation Ahmed Shide at the joint briefing the organizers gave yesterday November 18, 2015, said Ethiopia’s economy inclines itself to technology-driven and high-value activities like agriculture biotechnology, agro-processing, bio-farming, dairy farming, seed production and technology based farming.

According to Fitsum Arega, Director General of Ethiopian Investment Commission, agro-processing sector brings in domestic and foreign investors to the country.

He also mentioned of the sector’s potential advantages in low labor cost, growing domestic market and proximity to the European market.

Close to 600 high-level officials, representatives of international organizations, banks, investors, multi-national companies and industrial associations are expected to participate in the Forum.
