Poly-GCL Begins Drilling Gas Well in Ogaden

Poly-GCL, Chinese company which is engaged in natural gas development project in the Ogaden basin, eastern part of Ethiopia had launched gas well drilling in the Calub gas field on October 6, 2015.

At the presence of Tolossa Shagi, Minister of Mines, Alemu Sime, State Minister of the Ministry of Mines and Abdi Mohamoud, President of the Somali Regional State, Poly-GCL had begun drilling the gas well-Calub11.

Of the ten gas wells drilled in the Calub gas field, eight were made ready for gas production. Tolossa told the Reporter Calub11 was an appraisal well.

Poly-GCL is preparing to conduct three dimensional seismic surveys (3D) in its concession. And it had already hired a Chinese company for it.

Poly-GCL in November 2013 had inked petroleum development deal with the Ethiopian Ministry of Mines to develop the Calub and Hilala gas fields.

There is 118 billion cubic meters (4TCF) of gas reserves in Calub and Hilala areas.
