Fonterra Plans to Export Milk from Ethiopia

New Zealand Milk Products Ethiopia S.C., a business enterprise owned by Fonterra and Ethiopia’s Faffa Foods said it plans to export its products in two years.

General Manager of New Zealand Milk Product Ethiopia office Zeco Kassim said the company will export the milk to the neighboring countries of Ethiopia.

The factory produces Anchor’s Fortified Milk drink that is particularly fortified for Ethiopian children with over 30 essential nutrients, according to the experts.

Zeco said the factory has a capacity of 6000 tons of annual powder milk production, more than the local demand, 4000 tons.

Fonterra has 70 percent share of the factory and Faffa Foods owns 30 percent.

According to Zeco, the factory has a plan to increase its annual production capacity to 10,000 tons and export 20 percent of these to the neighboring African countries.
