The Mines Ministry of Ethiopia is to issue potash mining license to Yara Dallol BV to mine potash mineral in the Dallol depression of Afar Regional State, The Reporter reported.

Yara Dallol Bv is an auxiliary company to Yara International and had applied for large scale potash mining license. It has also completed its exploration project and submitted the definitive feasibility study to the Ministry of Mines.

Minister of Mines Tolossa shagi told The Reporter “We have to evaluate the proposal and grant them the mining license as soon as possible.”

Soon after the evaluation, the Ministry will send the draft mining license to the Council of Ministers for approval. If approved by the Council, Yara will ink large scale mining agreement with the Ministry of Mines.

Yearly estimated potash capacity of the Dallol project is 1-1.5 million tons, the company disclosed.
