Ethiopia is set to build the first railway academy in Africa to provide competent manpower for the railway projects to be constructed in the GTP II period.

We had agreed with the Chinese government for the construction of the academy, Dr. Arkebe Equbay, Economic Affairs Special Advisor to the Prime Minister said.

He also said the Chinese government extended 800 million Birr fund for the construction of the academy.

Thus far, Ethiopia had been sending students to different nations to get training, but the establishment of the training center could equip citizens and save hard currency, he explained.

The academy will be a training center for other African countries too, Dr. Arkebe noted.
