Ethiopia to Establish Agro-processing Industrial Parks

Ethiopia's Ministry of Industry said agro-processing industrial parks will be established in four regions with USD 2.5 billion capital investment.

Industry Minister Dr. Mebratu Meles delivering a speech at a consultative meeting on meat industry said there are no agro-processing industries in areas where there is surplus of agricultural products.

On the contrary, industries acquiring insignificant amount of raw materials have occasioned minimal income Dr. Mebratu stated.

Therefore, to bridge the imbalance agro-processing industrial parks will be established in Tigray, Amhara, Oromia and Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples’ States (SNNPS), he noted.

Currently, the feasibility study of all parks is concluded, thus execution would follow, he added.

Over 17 agro-processing sites have been chosen. There is ample livestock and fish, sesame, spices and honey in these identified sites, according to the studies conducted.
