Ethiopia: Faffa, Fronterra Partnered to Package Anchor Milk by September 2015

Faffa FoodsFaffa Foods of Ethiopia in partnership with dairy giant Fronterra is to commence processing and packing Fronterra’s Anchor powdered milk in Ethiopia by September 2015, according to Addis Fortune.

Anchor, the new brand is to entirely replace the Abay brand Faffa had been packing using ingredients supplied by Fronterra.

The two companies signed worth USD 10 million partnership agreement in December 2014; Faffa Foods Complex S.C. owns 30 percent equity and Fronterra 70 percent, said Zeco Kassim, General Manager of the company.

According to the stipulation of the agreement, Fonterra brought in Machinery from Japan and New Zealand and Faffa pitched in 1,200 square meter of land for the construction of the plant in Kality as well as some machinery.

The new company, in its first year production has planned to produce 2,000 tons of powdered milk. It will boost its capacity to 6000 tons per year by 2018, covering 45 percent of the country’s demand.

According to the press release of the company, the powdered milk contains over 30 nutrients, including protein, calcium, vitamins A and D, Iron and Zinc significant for a child’s growth and development.

The brand Anchor is familiar in 140 countries across the world.
