Ethiopia Plans to Generate 14,561 MW Power in 5 Years to Come

Ethiopia has planned to generate 14,561 MW power from renewable energy sources in the next five years, said an official.

Mekuria Lema, Electric Corporate Planning Head with the Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Energy said the construction of power plants, distribution centers and installation of power transmission lines will consume 615 billion Birr.

Ethiopia planned to generate power from water, solar, wind, bio-mass and geothermal sources.

11,237 MW from water; 1,500 MW from wind and 1,200 MW from geothermal energy will be generated.
The balance will be generated from bio-mass and hydro products from sugar factories.

This year Ethiopia increased its energy supply to 4,400 MW through the construction of hydropower dams, solar and wind farms.
