The Ethiopian Customs and Revenue Authority (ERCA) is to begin an e-payment system in the first weeks of September 2015, according to Addis Fortune.

The system will be open first for large tax payers (LTP); those with a turnover of 27 million Birr a year.

This system is the extension of the e-filing system that ERCA has been implementing for the last four years for both large and medium tax payers. E-filing system was installed by CRC Sogema, a consulting firm based in Canada with 90,000 USD financial supports from the Investment Climate Facilitation for Africa (ICF).

According to Berihanu Mamo, Information Technology Management Director at ERCA, one should be first included in the e-filing system to use e-payment system.

Tax payers training will take place in August 2015 regarding e-payment system, said Ephrem Mekonnen, Director of Education and Communications at ERCA.

Tax payers are allowed to access the service whenever and where ever they are via internet, said Berihanu.
