Ethiopia Targets USD 12 Billion Export Revenue in GTP II

Ethiopia aims to boost its export revenue to 12 billion USD in GTP II period, Ethiopian News Agency reported.

Ethiopia targeted to gain five billion USD in GTP I, yet secured three billion USD.

According to Amakele Yemam, Public Relations and Communication Director at the Ministry of Trade (MoT), the incapacity to begin the operation of the planned sugar factories and other industries, lack of quality agricultural products and deflation of international market are the prominent reasons for the low performance in the export.

Tough Ethiopia has increased its export destinations to 120 countries; its products are less competitive, Amakele stated.

There have been ongoing negotiations for accession to the World Trade Organization, but could not be realized in GTP I, he specified.
