eepco-logoEthiopian Electric Power said it is ready to supply the electricity needed to power the Addis Ababa Light Rail.

Demisew Zeleke, Project Manager at EEP’s power supply for AALRT and Ethio- Djibouti railway, said the significant amount of power the light rail demands has been integrated into power stations.

In peak hours, AALR will consume 66.1 MW of electricity, Tor Hailoch Corridor (13.5MW), Ayat (17.7 MW), Menelik (24.2 MW) and Kality (10.7MW) power.

GIS power distribution stations built on all four corridors of the railway (Egziabher Ab Church, Kality Round About near Kadisco, Ayat and Enfo Meda) will supply electricity to power the trains.

The stations get electricity from two sources, linked with the national grid, assuring unceasing power supply.
