Ethiopian Airlines Expands Freight Service

Ethiopian AirlinesEthiopian Airlines said it is working to expand its freight service to meet the growing demand from Ethiopia and Africa, Ethiopian News Agency (ENA) reported.

The Airlines, as the largest cargo operator in Africa, had been managing Ethiopia’s export items, specifically horticultural products, given that it is the sole transporter of the products.

Fitsum Abadi, Managing Director of Ethiopian Freight Service during an exclusive interview with ENA said the Airlines is playing a vital role to the import-export trade through its technologically advanced aircrafts.

Eight Freighters are dedicated for this use, four of them are Boeing 777, while two ND11 and one 757, according to Fitsum.

The cargo capacity of the airline was less than 100,000 tons three years ago, now it has reached to 120,000 tons, Fitsum noted.

At a ceremony held in South Africa in February 2015, the Airlines had won the ‘Air Cargo Brand of the Decade for Africa Award’ from Shipping, Transport, Aviation and Tourism (STAT).
